Project Manager

Role

Molins’ projects range from large, complex first of a kind developments to relatively small repeat projects which deliver standard products. All projects are managed by a dedicated team of project managers.

Reporting to the Engineering Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading projects though initiation, planning, implementation, control and completion whilst meeting budget, schedule and quality requirements.  Candidates who can demonstrate experience of senior project management such that they are able to contribute quickly and strongly to our current project portfolio will have a clear advantage.

Experience of high speed, high value capital equipment for pharmaceutical, FMCG, food and drink or similar industries is beneficial but is not essential.

Qualifications      

Minimum BEng / BSc (hons) degree, (2:1), in an engineering discipline. Alternatively, a professional qualification in project management with a proven track record.

Experience

  • Extensive, proven project management experience gained through leading substantial ‘first of a kind’ development projects (£100K to £1M+) in the engineering / automation field.  Such projects will have carried a high degree of technical risk across a wide range of engineering disciplines and been delivered within budget, against tight timescales, whilst meeting customer expectations
  • Excellent customer facing skills and ability to develop valuable relationships with customers at a senior level
  • Demonstrable experience of thriving in a multi-disciplined environment
  • Experience of internal change and improvement projects
  • Fluent in Microsoft Project

Applications Engineer

Qualifications: HNC in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years’ experience in machine automation. ABEng / BSc (hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering with a strong mechanical bias would be an advantage.

Candidates are likely to have a good degree in mechanical engineering coupled with demonstrable experience of successfully designing and developing complex engineered solutions for demanding applications.  Experience of developing and commercialising novel products for low volume manufacture (from 1 to 50 units a year) is also desirable.

Key Job Accountabilities: 
  • Working closely with our Business Development Managers to liaise with customers, quickly build relationships to explore and define key project requirements
  • Working within the Sales team you will liaise with engineering disciplines to perform a key pivotal role in the generation of; machine concepts, schematic engineering drawings and concept costings
  • Facilitating internal technical and commercial bid review meetings with the appropriate stakeholders
  • Preparation of proposal documents for submission to customers for Molins' complete portfolio of products and services
  • Supporting the Business Development Managers, as required, post-bid to maximise Molins' potential to win the business
  • Supporting the handover to the project delivery team following contract award
  • Supporting the continual development of efficient applications and costing processes

     
Key Job Skills:
  • Application/Engineering experience ideally in the development of automated special purpose machinery
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience of proposal writing would be a distinct advantage but not essential
  • Competent hand sketching / AutoCAD skills ideally complemented with Inventor experience

Commissioning Engineer

The successful candidate will:
 
  • Assist in the development and aftermarket support of complex automation and novel low volume products for demanding applications.
  • Work closely with engineers and project managers to ensure that project deliverables meet the essential requirements for commercial success.
Key responsibilities:
  • Providing technical expertise and assistance throughout machine lifecycle from build to post acceptance maintenance
  • Working closely alongside the engineering and technician teams
  • Creating, maintaining and executing test specifications
  • Supervising the assembly and test of equipment at customer sites including the supervision of technicians as required
  • Support at customer site for continuous improvements and service activities  
  • To contribute in design reviews with peers and others
  • To foster and maintain good customer relationships and to help identify new business opportunities
Key requirements
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of machine installations, commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Strong fault finding skills
  • Able to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics
  • Following, creating and updating test documentation

The candidate must be willing to travel (sometimes at short notice) throughout the UK and overseas to assist in the commissioning of equipment and provide aftermarket support.

This position would suit a qualified technical apprentice or an experienced technician looking to combine practical hands-on skills with engineering-based responsibilities to work on high end, complex products. The position may also suit a recent engineering graduate with a mechanical bias and proven hands-on experience.

Control Systems: Senior Software Engineer

Qualifications: Minimum BEng / BSc (hons) degree, 2:1 or above in software engineering, computer science or related control systems discipline.

Employment Experience:
Candidates are likely to have experience as a software engineer in a project led environment, ideally in high-technology industries involving:

  • PC and PLC controlled devices
  • Fieldbus and distributed drive, IO and safety systems
  • Motors and Drives, Servo Systems
  • Control systems engineering and design
  • Industrial robots and vision systems
  • Commissioning and fault finding
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and mechanical design

Ideally candidates will have 5+ years of experience working for other special purpose machine developers whose remit is likely to have included the specification, design, procurement, installation and commissioning of special purpose automated machines and support throughout the complete electrical and safety systems lifecycle.


Experience of designing high-speed, high-value capital equipment for pharmaceutical, FMCG, food and drink or similar industries is beneficial but is not essential.

  • Responsible for enhancing and developing good customer relations and identifying business opportunities in the course of their work
  • Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures and ensuring that other staff and contractors do the same
  • Carry out any other duties that may be assigned
